Day by day
Ten days in Israel, as it actually runs
A family itinerary we have run, written out in full. Not a package — nothing here is fixed — but it shows the shape and the pace of a trip before we design yours.
Land-only. Flights are booked separately, so the trip starts when you land at Ben Gurion and ends when we take you back to it.
The days
-
Arrival and the Mediterranean
Tel Aviv- On arrival
- You land at Ben Gurion, where your driver and licensed guide meet you, and transfer straight to the hotel in Tel Aviv.
- Late afternoon
- Nothing demanding after a transatlantic flight — a slow walk along the Tayelet promenade and Gordon Beach.
- Evening
- Welcome dinner by the sea. Mediterranean salads and grilled meats.
-
Tel Aviv on foot, and eaten
Tel Aviv- Morning
- Walking tour of old Jaffa — the port, the artists' alleys, the clock tower.
- Midday
- A tasting walk through Carmel Market and Levinsky Market, which is the fastest way to understand what people here actually eat.
- Afternoon
- Neve Tzedek and Rothschild Boulevard, for the Bauhaus.
- Evening
- Left free. Tel Aviv rewards wandering off on your own.
-
Up the coast to the Galilee
Galilee- Morning
- North along the coast to Caesarea — the Roman amphitheatre, the harbour, the aqueduct.
- Midday
- Haifa, and the view over the Baha'i Gardens and the bay from Mount Carmel.
- Afternoon
- Akko: the Crusader halls underneath the city, and the port market above them.
- Evening
- Into the Galilee. Dinner at the hotel or somewhere local.
-
The Galilee and the Golan
Galilee- Morning
- Two options, and the group can split. Kayaking or rafting on the Jordan for anyone 10 and over, or a boat across the Sea of Galilee for a gentler start.
- Midday
- Up into the Golan. Wine tasting at a boutique winery for the adults; fruit picking and a stop for the younger ones.
- Afternoon
- A 4x4 jeep tour along the Syrian border, with a guide who can explain the geography and the politics of what you are looking at.
- Evening
- Dinner and a quiet night in the north.
-
Tzfat, then Jerusalem
Jerusalem- Morning
- Safed — the centre of Jewish mysticism. Old synagogues, cobbled lanes, galleries.
- Midday
- South through the Jordan Valley. We stop at Mount Scopus for the first sight of Jerusalem and a Shehecheyanu.
- Afternoon
- Check in to the Jerusalem hotel.
- Evening
- Mahane Yehuda, at the hour it stops being a food market and becomes somewhere to eat and drink.
-
The Old City
Jerusalem- Morning
- The Jewish Quarter, the Western Wall, and a guided tour of the tunnels running underneath it.
- Midday
- Through the Roman Cardo, then into the Christian Quarter along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
- Afternoon
- Out through Jaffa Gate to the Tower of David museum, which lays out three thousand years of the city in one place.
- Evening
- Dinner in Jerusalem — Mamilla, or the First Station.
-
Masada, Ein Gedi and the Dead Sea
Jerusalem- Early start
- Out to the Judean Desert. Cable car up Masada for Herod's fortress and the story of what happened there.
- Midday
- Ein Gedi, walking up to the freshwater falls. Ibex and rock hyrax if you are paying attention.
- Afternoon
- The Dead Sea at a private beach, with the mud.
- Evening
- Back to Jerusalem, and the evening is yours.
-
Yad Vashem, and digging
Jerusalem- Morning
- Yad Vashem. Children under 10 are not admitted to the main museum, so we arrange an alternative for them — the Israel Museum's youth wing, or the Biblical Zoo.
- Midday
- Past the Knesset for the bronze Menorah.
- Afternoon
- Dig for a Day at Beit Guvrin: caving, sifting, and actually finding things.
- Evening
- Group dinner at the First Station.
-
The market before Shabbat
Jerusalem- Morning
- Mahane Yehuda again, but on a Friday — rugelach, halva, spices, bread, and the particular urgency of the hours before Shabbat.
- Afternoon
- Free. Shopping, resting, packing.
- Evening
- Shabbat dinner together, at the hotel or hosted by a local family.
-
Shabbat morning, and home
Departure- Morning
- A slow walk through Yemin Moshe, Mishkenot Sha'ananim, or the German Colony.
- Afternoon
- Late check-out and a last meal together.
- Evening
- Transfer to Ben Gurion for the overnight flight home.
A few notes on this example
- Every itinerary is built from scratch. This one exists to show the rhythm of a trip, not to be booked as-is.
- Pace is the thing most worth changing. Ten days can be six places or three.
- Days split where they need to — day four runs kayaking and a boat trip at the same hour, and day eight has an alternative for children too young for Yad Vashem.
- Summer is genuinely hot. If heat is not your thing, come before June. Winter can be wet, but March has the best weather of the year. And if you want the sun and the Mediterranean, summer is exactly right — the beaches here are worth planning a trip around.
